WARNING: Only exercise the
muscles that you want to use! BENEFITS OF THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE The benefits of massage are many. Aiding circulation of both blood and lymph in the body delivers nutrition to the muscles and cells and removes waste products which often cause fatigue and illness. Giving gentle range of motion to the joints increases flexibility and lubricates the tissues to decrease swelling and inflammation. Applying pressure to the skin's receptors changes pain impulses to ease chronic aches. Tight muscles are guided into relaxation. Healing time from new injuries can be reduced and adhesions from old injuries and scars can be broken down. For athletes the recovery time between events can be shortened. Stretching muscles can give them a new memory, aiding the retraining process for long term improvements. Increasing ease and effeciency of movements improves performance of our activities of daily living. Improving muscle and skin tone may give a feeling of rejuvenation. Reducing mental stress is related to calming of the mind and nerves. This allows for clearer thinking. Promoting a relaxed state of alertness gives a greater ability to monitor stress signals and encourages responding appropriately. Reducing anxiety levels enhances self image/self worth and increases over all well being. Satisfying our need for a caring, nurturing touch allows for a greater ease of emotional expression. MUSCLE TESTING Muscle testing is an important feature of the services of a professional massage therapist. The body functions best when it's paired muscles are in balance. Being out of balance results in improper posture with added muscle strain and often compensation which affects other muscle groups. Often limping from an injury to the ankle, knee or hip will result in strained back or shoulder muscles which only complicates the healing process and adds to a person's discomfort. SCHEDULING This management system's effects are cumulative. From one session to the next, you are able to relax more and more as the chronic patterns of stress in the body are released. Massage feels wonderful! The more often you get a massage, the better you feel. Be kind to yourself, and enjoy the experience. FOR COUPLES One of my specialities is teaching couples how to give relaxing massages to each other. Anyone can learn the basic techniques and can then apply them or expand upon them in their own home. Couples can relieve the temporary aches of tired muscles in a productive manner, and learn to give comfort massages to each other.
